A short reflection on the role of creativity in your life.

So you don't think you're creative

So you don’t think you’re creative? What’s the big deal, you say.

Creativity’s reserved for artists, musicians, and hippies, you say.

It’s too much work. Leave creativity to those have time, you say.

Why bother making something people won’t care about, won’t talk about, won’t ask you about? Why put in the effort?

Why do anything if it doesn’t have an immediate benefit. Why paint just to paint? Why write just to write? Why cook a five-course meal for you and that special someone if all you’re left with is a messy kitchen?

Why bother conveying a message, an idea, a feeling to the world?

Why bother leaving behind a footprint, however small, however far away, for generations to follow. (I’m sure that’s how Neil Armstrong feels.)

Why make anything?

Why be human?

Because, people need you.

I need your creativity. Your co-worker needs your creativity. Your friends, your family, the random people you pass on the street, we all need your creativity.

Saying yes to any idea, however crazy it may be, is saying yes to the innate nature of being human – taking what we have and turning it into something amazing.

I’m begging you to share your creativity with the world. Let go of your hesitations and make something!
